A bit about this item:
With built-in Alexa Voice Service, ecobee4 can listen to your voice commands and respond. Have it set a timer, read you the news, adjust the temperature, and more. It also comes with a room sensor that helps manage hot and cold spots in your home, delivering comfort in the rooms that matter. And because they can detect occupancy, they can automatically enable the right mode on your ecobee4 for energy savings when it senses no one is home.
When we first started hearing about Smart Home devices, they seemed a little ridiculous. Why would we need to pay for an additional piece of equipment when we have a thermostat already in our home?
Then we gave the Ecobee 4 Smart Wi-Fi Thermostat a try.
For starters out of the box, we were impressed at the Ecobee’s sheer potential. As advertised, Ecobee can control the temperature in our homes, optimizing it for different times of the day, adjusting to the weather outside, when we weren’t home or on vacation, and additionally giving us the power of a smart home assistant (Amazon’s Alexa). Alexa could even go one step further, giving us additional tools, like telling the time, playing music, setting reminders and making lists, as well as working with our other smart tech like lightbulbs and outlets.
Setup is fairly simple, partnered with a easy to follow guide illustrated in detail. Once our tools were collected, we went about connecting wires and turning the device on, glad to see it easily connect with our home wi-fi network, with no trouble. The videos and photos in the Ecobee app made installation clear and easy, with minimal fuss and confusion.
Beyond initial setup and installation, there were quite a few ways we could use the Ecobee to customize our home experience. We began by setting our ideal temperature, and, using the app, giddily controlled the temperature of one room from another. The Ecobee kit comes with a sensor included, vital to an accurate reading, beyond just the temperature of the hallway or room where the Ecobee is installed.
Additional sensors can be purchased to truly make a home-wide impact, though at $40 each, we might be making those purchases in increments. Still, they are a worthy investment combining the power of both temperature and occupancy sensors which can reduce heating and cooling bills dramatically, depending on the frequency of use.
The Ecobee team has worked to become Energy Star certified, and the app will generate Home IQ reports, showing how much energy you’ve used and saved, as well as providing insight into the equipment that you already own, and depending on your home setup, maximize that equipment. Ecobee has the power to run dehumidifiers, use fans exclusively when heating and cooling coils are still at their ideal temperature, and monitor the weather outside, working to optimize indoor temperature accordingly.
We could not recommend this device enough. 5 out of 5 stars.
