Wireless Earbud Headphones Overview
You’re sitting there reading this because you need a new pair of headphones. You’ve already made the first correct decision by deciding on a pair of wireless earbuds. Thanks to constantly improving technology and a handful of other benefits, you can’t even walk down a crowded street or through an office building without seeing a few people wearing wireless earbuds.
Before we even get into sound and convenience benefits, the number one thing people like about wireless earbuds is quite obvious—there are no wires. Outside of functionality changes, this means that you’ll never be stuck untangling your headphones again. Let’s face it, no one is going to miss digging into their pockets, purse, or backpack and spending five minutes untying knots before listening to music or making a phone call.
With a Bluetooth connection, this process is as simple as taking the earbuds out of their case and spending a second or two to pair them with your device. With companies moving towards removing headphones jacks altogether (looking at you Apple), you need to jump on the movement before you’re forced to. All you have to do is remember to keep your earbuds charged.
Have you ever been listening to music, gotten up, and had your phone go flying as you walk away? You’re living in the 21st Century, of course you have. When you wear wireless headphones, there is no physical tether to the location you’re sitting at. Thanks to the Bluetooth connection, you’re free to move about your home while maintaining a high-quality connection to whatever audio you’re streaming.
Below we take a look at a half dozen of our favorite sets of earbuds. Whether you listen exclusively to music, or value the freedom to take a phone call hands-free, there’s a little something for everyone. We walk you through the basics of each pair, as well as what makes them special before finishing off with a few other tips to help you make your final choice. In case you don’t believe us, we also tell you what others have had to say and their experience with these wireless headphones.
1. Best Overall: Samsung Galaxy Buds+ True Wireless Earbuds
Samsung Galaxy Buds+ Earbuds Review
Samsung makes a variety of communication devices, all of which use high-quality components, both internally and externally. With three ear caps of varying sizes and four colors (Black, Red, White, Cloud Blue) to choose from, customization is in your hands.
Samsung values versatility, and so do the users of their earbuds. When you want to block out outside noise, the Galaxy Buds+ allow you to do so. When you want to listen to music, but still keep an ear to what’s going on around you, Ambient Aware mode can be activated. This mode cancels out any noise isolation while still delivering high-quality audio.
To clear up any misconceptions that Samsung Galaxy Buds+ might only be compatible with other Samsung products, the company has gone above and beyond to ensure that performance is not affected by the connected device’s brand. In fact, these earbuds are both iOS and Android compatible and can connect to any device with Bluetooth. Additionally, Samsung has built apps for Android and Apple users to get the most out of their headphones.
If you’re ever in a tight spot where you forget to charge your Samsung Galaxy Buds+, you can pop them on the charger for a mere three minutes and get an hour of play time out of it. When you actually remember to track battery life and have a full charge, play time increases dramatically. At full charge, the earbuds can last for 11 hours. Samsung’s included charging case doubles battery life, giving you another 11 hours of play time without having to use a wired connection.
With the Samsung name, it’s no surprise that the Galaxy Buds+ have exceeded the expectations of even the most difficult to please audio aficionados. On the whole, these earbuds have been rated an average of 4.5 stars. Consumers have ranked Battery Life as the top feature, rating it 4.6 stars.

3. Best Ease-Of-Use: XClear X1 Wireless Earbuds with Immersive Sounds
XClear True Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless Earbuds Review
A small light on the side of your XClear X1 earbuds lets everyone around you know you’re plugged in. For some earbuds this might not be necessary, but with these, high-quality sound has you focused on the music, calls or other audio being blasted directly into your ears—rather than anything else around you.
Speaking of the lights on these earbuds, during the pairing process they blink. Once paired, the light becomes solid and lets you know you’re good to go. Bluetooth pairing is a unique process in that it starts automatically once you open the charging case for the XClear X1’s. Instead of fussing over pressing and holding buttons, these earbuds work for you and keep you moving.
A single charge of the XClear X1 earbuds provides five hours of playtime. By combining this battery with the charging case XClear includes, you can extend this time to 14 hours without having to charge both pieces. Additionally, these earbuds are rated at IPX5 for waterproofing.
Rather than forcing you to play a guessing game, XClear designed their charging case with a digital LED battery indicator. By letting you track how much battery remains, you will never be stuck in a situation where you are unable to listen to your earbuds—unless of course you choose to ignore the tracking system.
XClear is quickly becoming a household name when it comes to wireless earbuds, thanks in no small part to their X1 model. On average, consumers have given it a 4.3-star overall rating.Original Retail $40

5. Best Entry-Level: Purity True Wireless Earbud Headphones
Purity True Wireless Earbuds Review
When you want to listen to music with pure sound quality and an incomparable Bluetooth connection, Purity Earbuds are a top choice.
Purity earbuds come with two separate modes. The first is called Stereo Mode, which is pretty basic and music will play over each earbud. The other is Single Ear Mode which can be used with either earbud. Basically, if you’re someone who likes to wear just one earbud, you can do so, regardless of what ear you favor. Pairing is also a breeze with light and voice indicators that let you know your device and earbuds are connected.
Comfort is a top-priority of Purity, offering three different size ear caps with each pair of earbuds. Thanks to the advanced design and superior shaping, it’s difficult for the earbuds to escape your ears. With an IPX5 water resistance level, these are ideal for working out where sweat might touch the surface of the earbuds. While this level is high enough to support some moisture contact, you should avoid wearing them in the rain or submerging them in water.
Once you have your Purity Earbuds charged up, you can use them for four hours straight. When you use the portable and compact charging case, you can get another 10 hours of use before needing a wired charging connection. To keep track of your charging process and battery level, there are small LED lights that serve as indicators.

6. : Letscom T22 Wireless Earbud Headphones
Letscom T22 Wireless Earbuds Review
If you want to listen to music or take phone calls via Bluetooth all day, the Letscom T22 Earbuds are the choice for you. If you want to listen to music or take phone calls all week without charging you earbuds, then the Letscom T22’s are also for you.
When these earbuds are fully charged, you will be able to use them for four and a half hours, uninterrupted. Battery life is complemented by a durable and powerful mobile charging case. When this unit is at full power, you can expect to get 80 total hours of charge out of it.
Should you want to charge your phone or anything else that uses a USB charger, there is a port on the side of the case. One feature that stands out with the charging case is that you can simultaneously listen with one earbud and charge the other. While other headphones might continue to play audio on the not-in-use earbud, Letscom has created a setting where only one transmits music or other audio.
Unfortunately, a lot of companies that make earbuds neglect the phone call feature. While they provide the ability to do so, they focus their design on listening, rather than speaking. Letscom T22s feature a high-quality microphone making it an ideal choice for those that switch back and forth from being on the phone to listening to music.
Letscom T22’s are water-resistant at the IPX6 level. At this rating, you can comfortably wear them in the rain or otherwise moist environments. To make sure they stay in your ears, Letscom includes three different size ear caps.
Consistency is key in keeping customers happy. To maintain a high-performance baseline with solid all-around functions is something most companies shoot for, but Letscom has actually accomplished. Customers have spoken loudly and clearly giving the Letscom T22 Earbuds a 4.4-star overall rating.Original Retail $30
Letscom T22 Wireless Earbuds Buying Guide
A lot of the wireless earbuds we review, and most of the ones sold today, have many of the same features. For most pairs, the only way to distinguish what’s better or worse is by getting into the details and product specs. This requires looking beyond the images that companies provide and taking into consideration what they’re putting into their headphones (plus what they’re giving you).
Most brands categorize how waterproof their earbuds are using IPX ratings. The scale contains nine ratings beginning at IPX-0 (no moisture protection) and tops out at IPX-8 (can be entirely submerged in water without any ill effects). Since earbuds are regularly worn to the gym and while exercising, you should look to find a pair rated IPX-4 (protection against splashing and light water exposure) or above.
Whether it’s at work, on an airplane, or during some kind of leisure activity, earbuds offer an escape. One thing that rips us from that escape is our earbuds dying on us. First and foremost, you need to remember to charge the actual earbuds and the case that most pairs will come with. If you’re able to do this and you’ve picked a pair with a long-lasting battery, you should be in the clear.
To give you a complete picture of battery life, always look for how long the earbuds will hold a charge and combine that number with how long the portable charger lasts. At a minimum, you want to be able to get through a full day of work or other activity without having to charge.
Wireless headphones use Bluetooth to connect to your devices and stream all types of music and other audio. When Bluetooth was a newer technology, not every phone, laptop, and tablet came with this ability.
Today, we’re a bit more fortunate and nearly everything we buy comes with Bluetooth. To ensure your new earbuds will connect, always make sure to check that you have Bluetooth on your device. Some earbuds even come with their own app now for advanced control and feature selection.
