Now, shoppers can create a voice order to add items to their cart through Siri. The Siri Shortcut for Online Grocery allows customers with iOS devices to ask digital voice assistant Siri to add items to their cart by saying “Add to Walmart.” The new feature works for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod or CarPlay.
“Today, we’re proud to announce that partnering with Apple, we’ve made Walmart Voice Order available on Siri,” wrote Tome Ward, SVP Corporate Strategy and Development in a press release. “We are always looking for new ways to bring our customers the best experiences when buying Apple products from Walmart and when using their Apple devices every day.”
By simply saying “add to Walmart” and listing the item a customer wants, the item will be added directly to their online grocery shopping app for Walmart.
“The more customers use it, the better the experience will be,” Ward said in a release. “Customers can trust that we can quickly and accurately identify the items they are asking for, thanks to information from their purchase history with us. For example, if a customer says, “add orange juice to my cart,” we’ll make sure to add the specific orange juice the customer buys regularly. Instead of saying “Great Value organic orange juice with no pulp,” they’ll simply say: “orange juice” and we’ll add the right one.”
Walmart has recently integrated more technology and focused on building up the user experience through its grocery app. Additionally, the company added a special holiday shopping list to help customers prepare for their holiday needs. Walmart continues to add to its app through multiple partnerships such as Buzzfeed’s Tasty recipe adder. Customers can add all of the ingredients for a recipe at the touch of a button with the recipe app. Walmart added voice ordering capabilities for Google and Android devices in April.
In a similar fashion to Siri, customers can say “Hey Google, talk to Walmart” to add items directly to their carts. Walmart’s made sure to reach as many customers as possible by adding voice capabilities for Andriod and iOS users. Through these innovations, Walmart is trying to stay competitive with Amazon, Target and other digitized shopping experiences from big retailers.
As Walmart continues to fight for a piece of the online retail sphere, most likely they will continue to crank out new innovations for online shoppers. Walmart’s added at least five new additions to its online app over the past six months and continues to add new features to its app.
