The highly successful Nintendo Switch system may be getting a less expensive counterpart as hinted by NintendoLife, yet the rumors have not been officially verified by Nintendo. The system, which has posted $958 million in profits, bolstered Nintendo’s overall profits by 500 percent. The company sold more than 15 million systems in 2017 and made an operating profit of more than $1.62 billion. As of 2019, more than 34 million consoles have been sold making it one of the most popular gaming consoles worldwide.
NintendoLife reported that after speaking to a HonSon representative, the company is waiting for Nintendo to give the go-ahead and confirm the system before its put into production. NintendoLife reported the Switch Mini would be just a bit smaller than the original. However, Nintendo has yet to confirm or deny the development of a Swith Mini system.
Inverse reported that a “new, cheaper Nintendo Switch grows increasingly plausible by the day.”
“Nintendo has begun production on up to two new versions of its hybrid console, according to reporting from credible outlets,” Inverse reported. “More recently, a new batch of renders circulated on June 20 claimed to give gamers a glimpse of the company’s upcoming handheld. A new report about an important Nintendo supplier offers gamers even more encouraging news about the new Switch that could arrive in time for the 2019 holiday season.”
According to Inverse, a supplier for Nintendo that provides memory chips, Macronix International, told the Taipei Times that Nintendo increased its order for components substantially.
Inverse states that through a stream of leaks, it seems evident that the Switch Mini will cost roughly $250 but some analysts peg the cost closer to $199. As Nintendo has gained immense financial success from the release of the console, many may hope the company will develop more games instead of updating the console. Millions of users purchase Nintendo Switch online subscription, which retails for $4.99 per month or $19.99 per year. The subscription offers access to several classic Nintendo releases and online game play on games such as the wildly popular Minecraft.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo may release two new consoles this year, with the Mini Switch being one of the anticipated releases. Whatever the truth is, fans are on the edge of their seats for more content, updates to the systems or customizable options.
With the ability to switch out the consoles handheld device, Nintendo has allowed for some options as far as providing unique cases and other accessories for the device.
