Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming to a huge variety of platforms this holiday, including Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, Stadia and PC. That’s a whole lot of platforms, but on top of that there’s also four versions of the game to choose from, so knowing how to pre-order what version you want and need could be a little tedious. This guide will help you through that tedium.
For those who don’t know, Valhalla is the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed timeline from Ubisoft. It’ll take players back to the Viking Age, where you will play as Eivor, a Viking raider of either gender that you choose. Your goal is to lead your people away from a ravaged Norway and into England. The game isn’t very historically accurate, as you may imagine, but it will draw from the era in regards to weapons and fighting styles, and promises a wider array of enemies to face. As mentioned previously, it will not only be available on current gen consoles, but also the next generation, which includes the Xbox Series X and PS5. With six different platforms that Valhalla is coming out on, there will be many special editions to choose from when pre-ordering. All four of those editions are available to pre-order right now for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and you can even get them at a discount from Walmart and Amazon right now. And since Valhalla will support Xbox Smart Delivery, you can get your first next gen game at a discount on that platform.
It’s worth noting that only the current generation can be pre-ordered for right now. It’s likely that prospective buyers will have to wait a bit longer in order to pre-order the game for PS5. But because of the aforementioned Xbox Smart Delivery, pre-ordering the game for Xbox One will also net you a copy for the Xbox Series X. That means the Xbox Series X is the only next gen console that you can go ahead and pre-order AC: Valhalla for, albeit in a roundabout manner.
As for game versions, there’s the base version of course, which just includes the game itself. This is the version you could pre-order at Walmart or Amazon for $50. The more expensive versions are the Gold and the Ultimate Editions. Gold includes the base game and the season pass for post-launch DLC, but the Ultimate edition includes all of that and various in-game items that will be exclusive to Ultimate pack buyers. The price of those editions is $100 and $120 respectively, assuming you are buying the digital versions.
Finally, there’s the Collector’s Edition, which is a whopping $200. But for that money, you get all of the following:
- Ultimate Edition of the game with pre-order bonuses
- Replica statue of Eivor and her longship (30 cm)
- Steelbook (exclusive to Ubisoft Store)
- Collector’s case with unique artwork
- Statuette of Eivor with his Raven and Dane axe (5 cm)
- 3 exclusive lithographs showcasing concept art for the game
- Selected soundtrack
- Numbered certificate of authenticity
The Collector’s Edition is available exclusively on the Ubisoft Store, but it is currently sold out. That said, it’s very likely that it will be restocked between now and launch.
