Without a doubt, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the most popular games on the Nintendo Switch since its release, in part due to the pandemic, and mostly due to the fact that it’s a great game. However, people do have a few questions about it, so we’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked in this article for your convenience.

Is Animal Crossing Free?

This might sound like a weird question at first, but there are more and more free games coming around these days that profit off of in-game content instead of an initial sale. That being the case, some people may be curious to know if Animal Crossing is such a game. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Animal Crossing is not free, and it costs approximately $60, though you may be able to find a physical copy at a physical retailer for $50.

Why is Animal Crossing so Expensive?

We understand why some people may feel that $60 is expensive, as $60 can serve you very well in a number of different ways. However, $60 isn’t expensive: it’s the norm. Nine times out of ten, new games are $60, regardless of what console is in question. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch games are traditionally $60 when they’re new, and this has been the case for years.

Of course, Animal Crossing has been out for a little while now, so why is it still $60? Well for one, it’s been less than a year since its release, and there’s no newer entry in the franchise to make this one obsolete. Moreover, it’s a very popular game, and Nintendo knows they can continue to charge $60 and still have people buy it.

That probably doesn’t make you feel better about spending $60 if you feel that’s expensive, but just keep in mind that this is the normal price for new and popular video games, so it’s not like you’re being ripped off. If you really want to get it cheaper, you can look for a physical copy at a retailer or try to find someone selling the game for cheaper online via Amazon or similar services.

Can You Play Animal Crossing on the Switch Lite?

Short answer, yes. The Switch Lite is slightly inferior to the regular Switch in a few ways, but it’s mostly things like TV connectivity, controller removal, screen size, etc. The Switch Lite can still play all the same games as the regular Switch, which includes Animal Crossing.

Can You Play Animal Crossing on the Switch Without Internet?

If you don’t have regular access to the internet or your WiFi just isn’t the best, you may be concerned regarding whether or not internet is needed to play Animal Crossing. Fortunately, you do not require an internet connection to play Animal Crossing. However, you do need an internet connection to enjoy some of its features, which includes anything to do with multiplayer. You’ll be able to play 95% of the game without internet, you just won’t be able to interact with other real players.
